Hello!

My name is Shane DiGiovanna. I’m a sophomore at Rice University studying Economics and Business. I am passionate about science, space exploration, and advocating for people with disabilities. You’ll usually find me fiddling around with my next project or reading The Washington Post as I simultaneously watch Star Trek.

My Story

I was born on June 4th, 1998 with an extremely rare genetic skin condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa, which causes fragile skin that results in large open wounds that requires hours of painful bandaging each day. I am also deaf and have cochlear implants. My passion to explore and contribute to the world allowed me to endure  these debilitating conditions that have required dozens of surgeries. Despite all odds, I am now in college striving to help people and design the world of tomorrow.

I founded ShaneTalks to  encourage people to embrace diversity and learn how understanding and appreciating people’s differences can create a stronger community that can turn adversity into opportunity.
